On the 20th day of December, 1941, Ed Rector of the American Volunteer Group (Flying Tigers) claimed one of the first victories for the AVG over Kunming, China. Flying north from Hengyang on July 4, 1942 the Flying Tigers encountered the 54th Hiko Senti from Hankow. Rector, flying a P-40E with the 2nd Pursuit Squadron, downed Flight Sgt. Shikaji Fujino of the 3rd Chutai one of the last victories – if not the last victory – for the AVG.
